Woo-Woo Therapies I Have Tried

And my honest thoughts about them…

For years I’ve been a guinea pig. I’ve tried things for the sake of health, because at points when my health was so low, nothing was off the table. Palm reading? Sure. Coffee enemas? Sign me up.

Holistic modalities (including massive lifestyle and mindset shifts) are what ultimately gave me my life back, so I wanted to share some of those experiences. My latest Lifelong Podcast episode, Woo-Woo Therapies I Have Tried & My Honest Thoughts is out now and dives deeper into each of the following modalities. Happy reading & listening!

So, here are some of the woo-woo things I’ve tried and my real, raw thoughts.

Working with a Medical Medium: 🔮 One of the most woo-woo things I tried for my health regards working with a medium to communicate with spirits for health insights. I had a positive experience with the privilege of working with a well-respected medium (this is not always the case). Today, the approach doesn’t fully align with my current spiritual outlook, BUT I acknowledge the positive impact it had during a challenging time.

Homeopathy: Homeopathy is standard medicine in many European countries! The Queen even had a homeopath on staff. That said, it has been difficult for me to grasp how homeopathy works because it is more energetic in nature, but I have a ton of faith in it whether you’re working with a respected homeopath or grabbing a remedy at your local health store.

Palm Reading: When you’re sick, you one one thing - to be healthy. I tried many things including having my palms 🖐️ read. I had a less-than-impressive experience. The man who read my palms seemed like he just wanted to make a buck. Despite that poor experience, I know that our bodies tell stories and have wisdom embedded throughout.

Iridology: Iridology is where an expert looks at your eye 👁️ for insight into what is going on inside the body; the eyes are seen as windows into the body’s state of health. I find this science fascinating and loved getting mine read by an iridologist.

Cold Laser Therapy: Cold laser therapy is a new one to me! I started this therapy at my chiropractor’s office this year to heal my nervous system and improve my brain health. 🧠 I was a huge fan! Truthfully, it is one of those therapies that gets expensive because you have to do it regularly, but I really felt incredible after each session.

Bioresonance Testing: Bioresonance testing, a unique approach involving energetic readings of hair or saliva samples. It is incredibly complex, fascinating, and accurate. You’ll want to listen to Lifelong Podcast episode 78 Woo-Woo Therapies I’ve Tried & My Honest Thoughts to hear the full scoop on this groundbreaking therapy.

Coffee Enemas: One of the weirder things I’ve done for my health is put coffee up my butt. Don’t judge ‘til you try it. It increases glutathione production (the master antioxidant) by 600%, promotes bile production (byeee toxins), and cleanses your colon of mucus, biofilms, and other gunk. Better out than in. 🫢 Want to learn more about this magical, mystical tool? Listen to Episode 76 of Lifelong!

Fascia Work: The mind-body connection is a real thing! The body stores trauma/stress in the connective network between muscles called fascia. Implementing a routine to care for your fascia will level up your mental, physical, and emotional health. My favorite method is Rolfing, learn more here.

Reiki: I am a believer in energetic medicine, however reiki didn't resonate with me personally. I acknowledge its potential benefits for others!

Shamanic Healing: There are many ways Shamanic healing could be helpful. Think of all the folks using plant medicine like Ayahuasca (not me!). Personally, this kind of spiritual territory is not one I am open to touching given where I am at in my own spirituality/faith. Always do what is in alignment with YOU, not what folks on the internet are saying.

Acupuncture: Acupuncture, an ancient Chinese healing practice, involves stimulating energy flow, promoting balance in the body's vital forces, and offering benefits such as pain relief, stress reduction, and improved overall well-being. This was my first holistic modality I tried at the ripe age of 15. Big fan ever since, just be mindful of who you’re working with. It can be tricky to find a “good” doctor of TCM!
Sound Healing: Sound baths and frequency healing is up my alley. Binaural beats, particularly the 528 Solfeggio frequency, are a favorite for their calming effects.

Crystals: Healing crystals are naturally occurring minerals and gemstones believed to harness and amplify specific energies, promoting physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being by interacting with the body's energy field or chakras. I feel grounded by their presence but I personally don’t lean too much into these things/find them effective beyond evoking a little peace.

Astrology: 🌕 One of the most intriguing alternative therapies I've explored is receiving an astrology reading, particularly from an expert in medical astrology. The insights into my health were truly fascinating. While I appreciate the ancient wisdom associated with astrology, I now prioritize placing God first in my life and maintain careful boundaries in my spiritual journey. After all, spirituality is a deeply personal experience, isn't it? :)

Hypnotherapy: Hypnotherapy is one of the first modalities I tried when I was dealing with severe anxiety and panic issues in high school. I was lucky to work with one of the medical leaders in hypnotherapy and has a transformative experience. It really helped me! I recognize not all hypnotherapists are equal and I was lucky to work with a world class doctor.

EMDR: EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is acknowledged for its challenging yet transformative nature. I started my journey with this recently and it has been, well, intense!

Chanting and Humming: Across many religions and cultures there are chanting and humming practices. I have noticed positive effects on the nervous system and the stimulation of the vagus nerve and love having this in my tool kit. For example, humming while stressed!

My journey through various woo-woo therapies provides valuable insights into the nuanced world of alternative healing. While each therapy has its merits, the overarching message is one of discernment, emphasizing the importance of finding reputable practitioners and aligning personal beliefs with chosen healing modalities. The quest for well-being is a multifaceted journey, and exploring unconventional avenues may lead to unexpected breakthroughs and discoveries.

Remember: what works for me might not work for you and vice versa. This is not intended to be medical advice!
